I'm melissa,
an industrial designer based in the US

I grew up in a home heavily influenced by Finnish design and culture. From my earliest years, I was interacting with designs that were simple, easy to manufacture, and functioned beautifully. This has always informed my approach to creating. My design philosophy centers on optimizing simplicity and manufacturability, letting form emerge from there.

My professional career began in apparel design, where I built and ran an apparel pattern design brand for 10 years before selling it to pursue industrial design.
The pivot point came when I visited the Eames Case Study House #8 in California, where I learned in depth about their approach to industrial design. Sitting on the floor of their home, surrounded by prototypes of designs I had long admired, resonated so deeply with me that I enrolled in an industrial design program shortly after.

My passion is in home accessories and furniture that blend function with a subtle playfulness. I aim to provide a sense of ease and emotional uplift to your space through my designs. To see an example of my approach browse through my portfolio and please reach out! I'm always eager to discuss design whether it's creative process, sustainability practices, material innovations, potential collaborations, or anything other aspect of the field.
